ice dam steaming equipment: steamers vs pressure washers
this is the only professional grade ice dam steamer that we use
ARCTIC STEAMER (MADE IN MINNEsota):
Our steamers operate at 290F. At this temperature, there is enough energy in the water to transform it into steam. Our steamer nozzle directs the gentle steam to quickly cut solid ice using heat, not pressure, and will not damage your roof like even the lowest pressure generated by a wet steamer-hot water pressure washer will.
Our steamers do not use chemicals or ice melting products, which can cause new ice dams to form.
THIS IS an example of a wet steaM & hot water power washer used by other companies
wet steamers & hot water power washers:
Most companies use a modified version of a hot power washer with adjustable pressure or a wet steamer, and try to pass it off as as a professional ice dam steamer.
The pressurized spray from a wet steamer or hot water power washer should NEVER be used on an asphalt roof to melt an ice dam.
Hot water power washers typically operate at between 150F and 250F and have a nozzle that sprays water in order to create impact force. This impact will damage your roof.
